COMPTIA CEU

DO YOU WANT TO RENEW YOUR COMPTIA SEC+ through CEU? 👆🏻

a clear, practical guide to renewing your CompTIA Security+ continuing education units (CEUs) so you keep the certification active and compliant.

What CEUs Are and Why They Matter

CompTIA requires that you earn 50 continuing education units (CEUs) every three years to renew Security+ certification. Think of CEUs like “proof of professional activity” that shows you stayed current, similar to how airlines require pilots to log flight hours each year.

🫆Ways You Can Earn CEUs for Security+🫆

Below are the main activities CompTIA accepts. Keep track of the CEU values and make sure the total equals 50 or more before renewal:

✍️1. Additional Certifications

If you earn higher or related certs, CompTIA awards CEUs.

Analogy: It’s like leveling up in a game; reaching higher badges earns bonus points.

Example:

  • CompTIA CySA+ might give 30 CEUs

  • CASP+ could give 50+ CEUs

✍️2. Instructor-Led Training

Teaching cybersecurity courses counts.

You might teach in a classroom, workshop, webinar, college course, or training bootcamp.

Typically:

  • 1 hour of instruction = 1 CEU up to a cap

✍️3. Higher Education

College courses in cybersecurity/IT count.

Example:

  • Semester course might give 15–30 CEUs depending on length

✍️4. Self-Study and Conferences

Reading, webinars, and attending cybersecurity conferences count.

You must provide evidence such as certificates or attendance records.

Rule of thumb:

  • 1 hour of learning = 1 CEU up to a limit

✍️5. Published Work or Presentations

Writing an article, whitepaper, or giving a talk.

CompTIA assigns a higher CEU value for authored content.

🫆How to Report CEUs to CompTIA🫆

💻Here’s the step-by-step process:

✍️Step 1. Create/Log In to Your CompTIA Account

Go to the CompTIA certification portal and sign in.

✍️Step 2. Navigate to CE Program Submission

Most likely you will see a dashboard listing your Security+ certification and a button like Submit CEUs / Renew Certification.

✍️Step 3. Enter Your Activities

For each activity:

• Choose the CEU category

• Enter the title, date, provider, and hours

• Attach documentation (certificate of completion, transcript, attendance badge, etc.)

✍️Step 4. Submit and Wait for Approval

CompTIA might review your submission. Once approved, your CEUs are counted.

✍️Step 5. Pay Renewal Fee (if applicable)

There may be a renewal processing fee. Confirm the exact amount at submission.

What Documentation You Should Upload

For each activity, CompTIA expects evidence. Typical examples:

  • Training certificate with your name

  • Conference badge showing sessions and dates

  • College transcript

  • Screenshot of webinar completion

  • Proof of publication

Timeline and Strategy

CompTIA gives you three years from your security+ certification date to earn 50 CEUs.

Strategy example:

Quarter

Activities

Year 1

Attend 2-day cybersecurity conference (12 CEUs), complete online course (10 CEUs)

Year 2

Teach workshop (8 CEUs), write blog post (10 CEUs)

Year 3

College class (15 CEUs)

Total = 55 CEUs

This spreads the workload and avoids last-minute rush.

Analogy to Make It Simple

Think of CEUs like epic miles on an airline loyalty program. You fly (learn, teach, publish, attend) to accumulate miles (CEU points). You need a certain number (50) every cycle (three years) to renew your elite status (Security+ certification). If you don’t reach it, you lose status.

Quick Checklist Before Submission

  • Do I have at least 50 CEUs?

  • Do I have proof for each item?

  • Are my activities within the last three years?

  • Have I paid the CompTIA renewal fee?

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Counting the same activity twice

  • Forgetting supporting documentation

  • Missing deadlines

  • Assuming all learning counts (only eligible activities count)

If you want, text me or WhatsApp me or you can tell me what CEU activities you’ve completed so far and I’ll help you calculate how many points you have and what you still need.
